Wait, Am I doing it all wrong?
Wait, Am I doing it all wrong?
Wouldn't life just be easier if It came with a manual? I’ve thought about it too. Well, I guess that is the fun of it.
Recently, I found myself guilty for not being “Productive”. Trust me, social media doesn't make it any better. Do we as Society promote the unhealthy work culture?
What can we do as individuals to unlearn what we’ve been taught all these years?
Well, here is what I’ve been trying to do. It obviously isn't something you can do once, it is a daily practice
Understand the contributors- By this I mean, what is making you feel “Unproductive” is it your peers, social media, yourself. Become aware and understand it is only a feeling. It is fleeting. In those moments, be extra gentle with yourself and know it is okay to do nothing.
It is human.
You are human.
Get out of your own head- Sometimes, your own head can be a negative place to be. So take a walk, cook something, listen to music
If all of this seems too much, just lay on your bed and stare at the roof and count ( Okay, it can make you fall asleep too *Guilty*)
Forgive yourself - I cannot stress on this enough. YOU ARE HUMAN NOT A MACHINE. Don’t blame yourself. Know it’s okay. Okay to not “do” anything. Just sit and enjoy the moment. (Okay it can be difficult when you have 272531264829 assignments but take 10 mins, just sit in silence , have a cup of tea/ coffee. Just breathe. You being alive is enough. You will do it all. Give yourself some time.
Stop the reward culture- I have been found so guilty to be following this.
Mind : “ Complete this work and then have ice cream”
Me: “But I want to eat it now”
Mind : “You can’t because you have finished your assignments “
Me : “so?”
Mind: “ You don't deserve it unless you finish it”
STOPP!! EAT THE ICE CREAM. You will feel better immediately. * I promise*
Do one thing out of sheer joy (With no ulterior motive)- By this I mean do anything - dance, read, sing even when you aren't great at it. Just be and enjoy.
I’ll be diving into the concept of slow living in the next post Stay tuned.
