Am I Missing out on Great Shows & Movies?

Am I Missing out on Great Shows & Movies?

With new TV shows and movies releasing every other day, some great ones tend to get missed out on,

well, here is my list of shows and movies you can binge this weekend. I’ve tried to include all types of shows and movies to help you pick whatever you’re in the mood for.

In no particular order-

After Life: This show produced and starring Ricky Gervais as Tony revolves around a man who loses his spouse to Cancer and the aftermath of it. It talks about love, it’s loss and how one deals with it. Tony is Funny, Sarcastic but deep down Sad, resentful. This show is a journey of Tony from being miserable to hopeful.

This show also delves into the acceptance of reality, as is, even when it is bitter. I often find myself coming back to this show for it’s witty and unforgettable lines.

Genre: Comedy-drama

Where to watch: Netflix

Seasons & Ep: 2, 12 ep Each

The Bold Type: I accidentally came across this show when scrolling through my Netflix and was completely hooked. The story revolves around three best friends- Jane, Sutton and Kat who work at a Fashion Magazine in NewYork. We see them balance Work, Relationships whilst forging their own paths in the crowded city.

Genre: Drama

Where to watch: Netflix

Seasons & Ep: 5, 52 Ep

Bojack Horseman: Trust me, an animated  half man- half horse is not what I had in mind either but this show is multi-layered, unlayering the human psyche and exploring emotions like loneliness, depression and topics like Abortion and asexuality

Almost every other line in this show will leave you thinking for days. If there's one show I’d strongly recommend from this list, it’s this. Every character is shown with the same depth as if it were a real person exposing the rawness, vulnerability and above all, what it means to be human in the 21st Century.

Genre: Comedy

Where to watch: Netflix

Seasons & Ep: 6, 77 Ep

Kimi no Na Wa: (Your Name) This was suggested to me by a friend and my first     anime movie DID NOT DISAPPOINT. The story is about two teenagers who in a parallel dimension, switch bodies and eventually fall in love and search for each other in another dimension.

It’s the right amount of Sci-fi & Fantasy everyone would enjoy. The whole movie in terms of animation and visuals is mind blowing and a cherry on top, a very new and interesting concept.

Don’t wait out on this one.

Is Love Enough, Sir?: The story explores the theme of forbidden love when a hard working house help and a son of a wealthy businessperson fall in love.

The story’s simplicity coupled with the complexity of themes like caste, Love vs Society is what impresses the viewers in general which made quite an impression at the Cannes Festival.

It was originally recorded in Hindi but it can be viewed with subtitles for non native speakers of the language.
